Week 8

This week’s efforts were centered on installing MythTV and getting it to work. We are still working through this process but hope to complete this phase sometime next week.

For those of you who are new to MythTV here are some of MythTv’s wonderful features.

Pause/Fast Forward/Rewind "live" TV.

Support for multiple tuner cards and multiple simultaneous recordings.

Distributed architecture allowing multiple recording machines and multiple playback machines on the same network, completely transparent to the user.

Compresses video in software using rtjpeg (from Nuppelvideo) or mpeg4 (from libavcodec). Full support for Hardware MPEG-2 encoder cards (Hauppauge PVR-250 / PVR-350). Preliminary support for DVB cards and the new pcHDTV tuner card.

Support for the (very nice looking) hardware MPEG-2 decoder and TV out present on the Hauppauge PVR-350.

Completely automatic commercial detection/skipping (this is really nice)

Grabs program information using xmltv.

A fully themeable menu to tie it all together.

Here’s our to-do- list for this week:

  1. Download and install the latest ivtv (Ivtv driver is the linux driver for the Hauppauge WinTV PVR-350 tuner card.)

Play your video recordings on your TV set with the included hardware MPEG-2 decoder. Will play your recorded home videos, too!

Turn your home video tapes (or TV recordings) into MPEG movies, then burn them onto CD or DVD

Pause live TV shows with instant replay, fast forward and rewind.

dbx stereo decoder, for great TV sound.

Includes WinTV-Scheduler, so you can schedule your TV recordings on a daily, weekly or once only schedule. Includes TitanTV, the on-line TV program guide, for automatic scheduling of your TV recordings.

Includes the WinTV-Editor, so you can cut and trim your videos without losing video quality!
