Sep.12 ~ Sep.14- Gentoo Install again on the External Hard Drive

- Issue : found that the BIOS did not support for the External Hard Drive Booting
- Gentoo Install again on the External Hard Drive
Sep.15 ~ Sep.17- Research for the BIOS and reinstalled it
- Call to Toshiba to ask whether or not it is supposed to provided enhanced BIOS which supports USB Boot
- Issue : Even the Latest Bios does not support the External Hard Booting
Sep.19- Successful booting from External Hard Disk using a desktop computer which supports External Hard Drive booting BIOS
- decided project topic to Pinux
- Issue : risk of short term for the Pinux Project and GRUB problem after booting
5th Week : Project Changed to Pinux
Sep.20 ~ Sep 23- Research for Booting without BIOS support
- Smart Boot Manager found
- Testing with desktops and notebook
- issue : even the utility can not find the external hard and booting unable
Sep.24 ~ Sep 25- Configure and Recompile Gentoo Kernel for supporting USB and SCSI
- make menuconfig option s for 2.6 kernal
6th Week : Testing with Several Bios
Oct.3 ~ Oct 5- Test Indirect Booting using GRUB CD-ROM with a computer which supported BIOS option for USB Booting and computers which did not support USB Booting.
- 1. step : change the BIOS Booting Prority and then reboot
- 2. step : set GRUB's root device to the partition for indirect to load another boot loader using rootnotify command
grub> rootnoverify (hd0,0) - 3. step : set the partion active
grub> makeactive - 4. step : use chaninloader to load the Gentoo
grub> chainloader +1
- Test Indirect Booting using GRUB CD-ROM with a computer which supported BIOS option for USB Booting and computers which did not support USB Booting.
- issue : can't find usb device when the computer does not support USB booting option with BIOS
Oct.6 ~ Oct 9- Test with Several BIOSs (Phenix....) with GRUB CD
7th Week : More Test
Oct.11 ~ Oct 12- KDE install on the External Hard Disk Drive
Oct.13 ~ Oct 15- Test and bug fix(ethernet card)
8th Week : Final Test & Presenation
Oct.17 ~ Oct 18- Final Test on two different computers(Pentium4, AMD 64)
