Ethereal

"A network analyzer that lets you capture and interactively browse the contents of Ethernet frames. Packet data can be read from a file, or live from a local network interface."

Ettercap

"Ettercap is a suite for man in the middle attacks on LANs. It features sniffing of live connections, content filtering on the fly and many other interesting tricks. It supports active and passive dissection of many protocols (even ciphered ones) and includes many features for network and host analysis."

Fping

GTK

Hacker

An expert or enthusiast of any kind. Hackers enjoy the intellectual challenge of creatively overcoming or circumventing limitations. This is a good thing.

Do not, under any circumstances, get this confused with people who are malicious users. These people are to be referred to as "assholes", "crackers", "script kiddies", or any number of nasty and degrading names which are not usually mentioned in polite company.

Hping

"Hping is a command-line oriented TCP/IP packet assembler/analyzer."
